Five Lakes Silver Band is honored to host the prestigious, historically steeped Metropolitan Silver Band of Toronto in concert, June 2, 2012 at 8 PM, at the First Church of the Nazarene – 21260 Haggerty Road, Northville, MI

The Metropolitan Silver Band (known to band followers as simply, “The Met,”) is a brass band in the English tradition, using only the instruments of the brass and percussion families. The band has been based at the Metropolitan United Church in downtown Toronto, Ontario, since 1934.

This jubilant concert will weave strands of silver harmony in the beautiful setting of the First Church of the Nazarene - Northville, MI. First, the Metropolitan Silver Band, under the baton of Music Director Fran Harvey, will create a beautiful musical landscape with works by Hume, van der Velde, E. Siebert,  Rutter, Wittrock and Jones.

Then, Five Lakes will thrill with the dulcet tones of Soprano Cornet Soloist, Michael Flickinger, just back from an award winning solo performance at the North American Brass Band Association Championships. Musical Director Neil Barlow will lead the band to spin silver performances of classics from Albinoni, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, balanced by trombones wowing the audience with Cole Porter.

To complete the silver trifecta evening, “The Met” and Five Lakes Silver Bands, 80 strong, will fill the air with the glorious compositions of Goff Richards and Michigan Native and recent NABBA President’s Citation Award winner, James Curnow. Five Lakes Silver Band, along with an active performance schedule, has released 3 recordings, a 4th in the works, and has participated in several key Brass Band competitions. In 2011 & 2012 the Band was awarded the prestigious Hannaford Cup at the Hannaford Street Silver Band's - Festival of Brass held in Toronto. The band has also just returned from a successful appearance at the North American Brass Band Championships. “The Met” has been instrumental in nurturing Five Lakes Silver. They opened their extensive music library and their hearts to Five Lakes. Many “Met” players have made the trek to Detroit to help complete instrumentation for a number of concerts.
